Osteopathy
Osteopathy is system of physical medicine for the diagnosis and treatment of any type of pain or impediment associated with the muscles, bones and joints of the body. Think of an osteopath as a body mechanic who can use hands on techniques to make your body work better.
Osteopathy is holistic, therefore treatment will not only relieve your symptoms but address the root cause of your pain. When one area of your body is tight and restricted other areas will have to work harder to compensate and carry the load. If the body is out of alignment excess stress is placed on your muscles and joints. Osteopathic treatment will rebalance and realign the body to ensure that the whole body is working efficiently. You will therefore get long term relief from your symptoms and experience less degenerative change as you grow older.
Good circulation is key to health. Your tissues require both a good blood and nerve supply. Osteopathic treatment seeks to improve circulation of blood and lymph, and ensure that nerves are not pinched and impinged as they exit the spine and travel throughout the body. This approach can accelerate healing, alleviate your symptoms and help promote long term health.
Sports Massage Therapy
Sports massage combines a firm classic Swedish massage in which the muscles are kneaded, stroked, and stretched with a variety of extra techniques, soft tissue release (STR) muscle energy technique (MET) and neuromuscular technique. Your therapist therefore has many more tools to reduce muscular tension and enhance your flexibility than a regular massage.
Overuse of the muscles, whether due to sporting activity, poor posture or any repetitive strain causes muscle fibres to become tangled, misaligned and sticky. Fluid flow in and out of the muscle reduces causing an accumulation of toxins and waste materials including lactic acid. Deep tissue massage help break down scar tissue and untangle and realign muscle fibres. The softening of tissues increases permeability and allows blood to flow in and toxins to be expelled.
For the athlete, sports massage therapy can help increase recovery rates from training and sports injuries. Regular treatment can enhance performance and prevent injury occurring. For everyone sports massage can reduce muscular tension, enhance circulation and promote relaxation and wellbeing.
