Charley Boorman, Actor and star of ‘Long Way Round’
“I have a chronic lower back problem for which I have sought various treatments over the years. I am an older woman and it is something that has to be managed rather than cured. I went to Mr Quaintrell on the recommendation of a family member. Over three months he has achieved considerable improvement to my pain-free mobility through simple but effective procedures, some of which I can reinforce by myself between sessions. I particularly appreciate the careful and frank way he has worked with me to improve my posture and exercise routine and now that the initial intensive treatment period is over, I have decided to continue to see him on a maintenance basis to keep up the benefits. I have no hesitation in recommending him to others”.
Lady Suzanne Warner
“I’ve always found the service very professional and as a keen sportsman training for the Royal Marine Reserves its’s helped me recover from fatigue and injury”.

Case Histories
Lucy – TV producer – stressed and fatigued
Lucy runs a very busy production company and is constantly under pressure at work. As a result she found it hard to unwind, her sleep was poor and she felt exhausted most of the time. Lucy receives a regular relaxing massage on her back, feet, hands and neck which helps relieve her stress and helps her sleep better. Her energy levels are improved and she is more productive “thanks to my regular massage I feel more relaxed and clear headed at work”.
Felicity – Office Manager – constant pain in neck and shoulders
Felicity sits at a desk most of the day and over time became increasingly tense in her neck, shoulders and upper back. She suffered from a persistent deep, aching discomfort in the neck and shoulders. On examination the muscles in the area were chronically tight, knotted and congested. Also the joints in her upper back were locked up preventing free movement and contributing to the feeling of restriction. Deep tissue massage techniques were used to untangle and realign the fibrotic (knotted) muscles. Joint stretches applied to the restricted spinal joints improved upper back mobility and helped maintain the muscle relaxation for longer than using massage alone. Felicity receives a monthly MOT treatment which keeps her pain free for the majority of the month.
Gerry – Chemical Engineer – runner with hip pain
Gerry is an accomplished runner with a personal best of 2h 30 min at marathon distance. Gerry experienced pain in his right hip which was affecting his ability to train at a high level of intensity. On examination the hip muscles were very tight including the muscles at the front of the hip. This tension reduced his ability to extend his right leg (move it backwards) and put strain on the hip when running. Local deep tissue massage, and trigger point therapy (sustained firm pressure to specific acupressure points) helped relieve the local muscular tension. Stretches applied to the front of the hip helped achieve a better muscle balance and thus allow the hip to function more efficiently. The resulting reduced pain allowed Gerry to increase his training levels and improve his performance.
Jonathan – TV Producer – RSI in forearm
Jonathan presented with pain in his right forearm due to excessive computer work. This discomfort was distracting and he was worried about the condition getting worse and preventing him from using the computer. Examination revealed excessive tension in the forearms and inflammation in the tendons crossing his wrist. Tension around his right shoulder blades was also referring (sending) pain to the forearm and contributing to the discomfort. Local treatment involved massage and stretches to relieve the tension in the forearm. Trigger point therapy (sustained firm pressure) around the right shoulder helped further reduce the pain. This treatment was supplemented with postural advice, self help stretches, ice therapy and the prescription of a wrist splint to aid recovery. Jonathan recovered well.
Toby- Think Tank Director – Triathlete – Low back pain injury
Toby is trains 4-5 times a week and has participated in regular sprint and Olympic distance triathlon events. He hopes to take part in a half iron man in 2009. When reaching for a small object Toby experienced immediate intense pain at the base of his back, his muscles seized up and he found it difficult to move normally. The diagnosis was an injury to one of the small guide rail joints at the base of his spine (L5 facet or zygapophyseal joint http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zygapophysial_joint ). Assessment also revealed that the area of the spine above the injury did not extend (bend backwards) well putting excessive strain in the affected area. Restricted movement further away in the thoracic (mid spine) further strained the area. Treatment helped remove local inflammation and boost circulation to speed up healing. Joint releases and stretches to the areas above the injury helped reduce the compensatory strain and make the injury less likely to reoccur in future. Toby was able to return to training quickly therefore preventing an excessive reduction in fitness.
Alex- Strategic Development Manager – Training for Royal Marine Reserves
Alex was training hard to meet the entry requirements for the Royal marine reserves. This intense training left his limbs feeling heavy and tired and caused a slow accumulation of muscular tension throughout his body. Alex received a massage every fortnight which helped remove the toxins and wastes from his body and therefore increase recovery rates between training. The treatment also helped counteract the accumulation of muscular tension. This allowed him to maintain higher levels of training than would be possible without regular treatment and helped him progress towards his performance goals.
Chris – Civil Cervant – Runner with recurrent ankle injuries
Chris suffered from a recurrent injury in which he went over on his ankle. This undermined his ability to train regularly. Assessment revealed that the ankle was unstable and that the joints in the right foot were locked up thus reducing his foot’s ability to act as a shock absorber whilst running. Treatment involved joint releases to make the foot more flexible and reduce the jarring forces passing through the ankle and leg. The instability in the ankle was due to a loss of proprioception. Proprioception is the body’s ability to sense where it is in space e.g. if you close your eyes you know can touch your nose because you can sense where the arm is. Wobble board exercises were given to improve the strength, proprioception and stability of the ankle. Chris stopped experiencing the injury and could get on with his training.
